Harinagar is a small village situated in Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh. It is very close to Rajasthan and Gujrat, hardly 5 km from Rajasthan and 7 km from Gujrat. This is one of the most backward tribal areas of Madhya Pradesh. The main occupation of the people is agriculture and laborers. Only one crop is cultivated during the eainy seasn. Other time people go to other place like Surat, Baroda, Ahmedabad , Kota etc. For work as daily labourer to earn for their livelihood. Thier tribal language is Bhili. The people these areas are illiterate.
Rt. Rev. Chacko Tottumarickal SVD Bishop of Jhabua at that time invited the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, Province of Delhi to render their service in Jhabua Diocese. The two brothers namely Bro. William Kerketta and Bro. Antony Swamy arrived to the place to study what service could be rendered to the local people. They stayed in a rented house and met the people, asked them of their need. Actually the brothers came here to begin a social service centre. But the people felt the most urgent need was education. Therefore the people of this place wanted have a school for their children to be educated. The people requested the Bishop as well as the Brothers to start an English Medium School. Since the demand of the people was for school, the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, Province of Delhi began a school in a rented house with thatched roof on 1st August 2003. There were no class rooms, the students were taught under the shed in the rented house. Brothers also stayed in one of the rented houses with lots of struggles, discomfort and hardship. After two years the number of students increased and place for class was not enough. They stayed in the Class room till the residence was constructed. The Brothers residence was ready and was blessed by Fr. Peter Kujur and inaugurated by the Superior General Bro. Rene Deloreme on 10th November 2009. Then the Brothers shifted to the new residence.
The Sisters of the Daughter of Our Lady of Mercy were invited to work as collaborators inthe year 2009. The Provincial administration of the sisters accepted the invitation. Three sisters joined Montfort School Harinagar in the month of June 2009.
This year the school has completed 15 years of its foundation. It was started in a small rented house, since this institution has grown a lot in every aspects of its escalation. At present the school has reached up to 10th standard with the recognition from Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education Bhopal. There are about 1000 students; they come from far and near villages and from the neighbouring states Gujarat and Rajasthan. The medium of instruction is English. There are 32 teaching staff, 3 Brothers, 3 Sisters and 6 non-teaching staff. The teachers are from local as well as from the other posts of India. All of them are rendering their valuables assistance in running of the Institution. There is a small dispensary run by the sisters of the daughters of our Lady of Mercy. Two sisters (Nurses) are fully involved in medical care to the people of this place as well as to the students and staff of Montfort school Harinagar. This is a wonderful service to the poor people of this area.
The English medium school has been started here on demand of the people of this area where most of the parents are illiterate. It is challenging job, especially when this area is underdeveloped in the field of education, where the people are not at all aware of the importance of education. Trough the children are purely from rural and illiterate background they are picking up and improving in every sphere in regard with their dress behaviour manners, cleanliness, learning habits, participation in various co-curricular activities etc. The school has already proved to be a beacon of light amidst the darkness of illiteracy. This institution has every atmosphere to render commendable service in the field of education. Ths residents are being imgrant labourers, it very hard to realize the minimum fees from the parents in time. However, in spite of the financial crunch the school is functioning fairly well. From the beginning till the day 14 Brothers and 10 Sisters have been rendered their valuable service in this Institution.
